My husband woke me up at 3:30am, telling me, "Umaretayo!" (one is born!) I woke up still half awake, half still dreaming about whatever I was dreaming, but jumped out of my bed in excitement. IT'S SHOW TIME!!!!
We woke up our kids at 3:40am. I know, I know, who in the right mind would wake their kids up at 3:40am if you KNOW they would be soooo sleepy and wiped out at school? Well, they were really looking forward to see the labor in action and had made us promised to wake them up when it happens during the night.
All of us were able to witness the amazing and beautiful puppy birth of the 2nd one at 3:50am.
The just born baby in the sac was so slimy... and yet so perfect. LIFE... What a perfect gift! My daughter commented, "it looks like a eggplant!" Haha, yeah, I can see the little resemblence.
We just watched while Monaka did all the work. The going through labor 4 times, eating of the sac, cutting of the umbilical cord, and feeding the puppies without any of our help. (wow! How amazing that God had made animals to know what to do by instinct!)
Ama and Akon were up to see 3rd and 4th come out.
by the 4th one, it was 6am. (Forget about going back to bed, it's time to get ready for work and school!)
Anyway, to distinguish which one came out first, we had put different colors of elastic ribbons on them. But after awhile, it came off while Monaka was licking them. So now, we have no idea the order of their birth. oh well.
All we know is that the female one is the 3rd one. the rest are all male. lol!
All of us are sleep deprived and felt lethargic throughout the day. Poor Masa, he has to work all day and has dinner with co-workers till late at night. Yuka fell asleep while doing her homework. Poor Yuki, he has a midterm tomorrow and was so sleepy to study for it. How nice that he said, it's better than being ON the test day. I guess so. Sorry if you don't get to have a higher score if you had been giving your much needed rest... BUT WE GOT TO WITNESS THE BEAUTY OF PUPPY BIRTH! -to experience it first hand. To see it with our own eyes. To smell the blood and sac and the puppies with our noses. To hear the first yelp after they were delivered with our own ears. And to feel the warmth of the puppies in our palms with our own hands. Now, that's way better once in the lifetime experience than getting 100% on the test.... right?
And me... I have major bags around my eyes. I am not as young anymore and can't function throughout the day with only 3 hours of sleep. But hey, it's all worth it.

i honestly agree with you that witnessing this is way better than any school home work or test.
This kind of stuff is truly life changing and it'll stay with them forever...!
they will have respect for life, which will lead to respect for self and others... i think so!
i've never seen puppies being born... in fact, i've never had a dog in my life... but just reading about it is so exciting :)
